There are a number of ways to quickly open Gmail's compose window, By installing Gmail Notifier on your computer you can easily replace Microsoft Outlook with Gmail as your default email client.But by using your browsers (Google chrome and Firefox) address bar you can easily and quickly open your default mail's compose window. All it takes is a quick command in your address bar:
