<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">In the past decade or so, alternate communication channels like email and IMs have gained immense popularity but the good old fax machines, that transmit scanned paper documents (aka facsimile) through the traditional phone lines, are still an ubiquitous part of every business.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">Thanks to internet-based fax services, it is now possible for business owners to send and receive faxes without investing in a fax instrument. Not only are these web faxing services significantly cheaper (even free) than the traditional phone line route, they also help you realise your dream of a paperless office.</span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">There are different ways of sending faxes over the internet — some services offer a web-based interface where you can type in the text message in a web form (similar to writing a mail in Yahoo!). Or you can send the fax as an email message to a special address given by the internet fax company. (I say special because the email address itself contains the number of the destination fax machine)</span><br />

<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Date 12/4/2013</span></b><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">What happens to your online accounts when you die? Some may not care at all, after all, they are dead by then and there is not really anything that can be done about that. Others may want to control what is happening to their accounts. Maybe they want them closed right away, kept open only with a different and permanent status message, or maintained by a family member or loved one.</span></span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">A click on setup on the page starts the process. Here you can modify the following parameters:</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></span>
<br />

If you set it to one month, the Google account will be set to inactive if no sign in to the account is noticed in a one month period.</span></li>
<li style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 2em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><strong style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Alert me</strong> - You can configure email or text message notifications to alert you before the timeout period ends so that you can prevent the account from being flagged as inactive.</span></li>
<li style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 2em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><strong style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Notify contacts and share data</strong> - Here you can add trusted contacts, a family member for instance, that you want made aware of the fact that the account has been flagged as inactive. You can also share data with them if you want using this option.</span></li>
<li style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 2em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><strong style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Optionally delete account</strong> - You can ask Google to terminate the account permanently.</span></li>
</ul>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #101010; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">You can configure the parameters individually on a single page. The timeout period can be set to one, three, six or twelve months. If you want someone else to be notified, you need to add their email address here as well and can select the data that you want to share with them.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #101010; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The delete account option is a permanent option that you can enable by setting the slider from no to yes. All settings are not enabled until you click on the enable button in the menu to activate the Inactive Account Manager feature.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #101010; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">A couple of things are missing here in my opinion that would really make the feature more usable. I'd like to see an option to delete only select data and not all of it. Maybe you want your emails to be deleted or your photos, but not your Blogger blog or your public YouTube videos. This cannot be done using the Inactive Account Manager.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #101010; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I'd also like to see an option for the account to be deleted after a certain time has passed after it has been flagged inactive. Say, you select to delete it six months after it has been flagged as inactive.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #101010; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">How would you like your online accounts to be handled after your death? I for one would like to see Ghacks remain online, and maybe even handed over to someone who will continue the site as the new main writer and administrator. As far as my other accounts go, I would not mind having them deleted automatically or at least set to read only.</span></div>

Know What Happens Behind The Scene<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<b>Date 9/4/2013</b><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">When you install or upgrade software on your computer, the installer program works hard in the background writing new files to the system, creating new registry entries and in some cases, it will even download new files from the Internet during the installation process.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">Now that seems to be a fairly complex and we often don’t care more about this “behind the scenes” activity. We </span>accept the EULA<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;"> and wait for the installation to get over without really thinking about stuff that has changed on the computer in the last few minutes.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">That’s OK in 99% of the cases but how do you troubleshoot when the software installation fails and the error message is not clear enough for you to debug the problem. Or consider the case when you are installing a software utility that comes from not a very credible source.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">Here are some essential tools – completely free – that you spy the installation routine so you exactly pinpoint problems or know about suspicious changes made by the installer:</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif;"><span style="line-height: 21px;"><b>1. </b></span></span><strong style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> </strong><strong style="background-color: white; color: black; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px;"><a href="https://sourceforge.net/projects/regshot" style="background-color: white; color: black; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">Regshot</a></strong><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">– Before you begin the installation process, take a snapshot the registry with this tool. Once the software installation is complete, take another snapshot of the registry.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTPq0L0xdAIEr7LUB2KZNBlEnJRR2YXQGuza5TPnXhzpYPOfSqPKn8Y6sPy0Q5r_dUuY0M7p0s5AUOMm1hV-XsPkgGVfBtSQ6xGwo9FMPgHd1tD8nEPauWOspI5kAAp3ODC5h8SMdGb8/s1600/untitled4.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTPq0L0xdAIEr7LUB2KZNBlEnJRR2YXQGuza5TPnXhzpYPOfSqPKn8Y6sPy0Q5r_dUuY0M7p0s5AUOMm1hV-XsPkgGVfBtSQ6xGwo9FMPgHd1tD8nEPauWOspI5kAAp3ODC5h8SMdGb8/s1600/untitled4.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 21px;">This ~91k tool will then generate an HTML report of all the changes made to your registry pre- and post-installation. Will be handy if program B stops to function after your install program A. Maybe A deleted or changed registry entries that were required by program B.</span><br />

<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Date 9/4/2013</span></b><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I always thought that it should be theoretically possible to record any sound that you are hearing on your computer. Sometimes solutions for selected programs exist but I was looking for a free program that could record any sound no matter the source it was coming from. This can be for example quite useful if you want to record conversations in Skype or Teamspeak or record a sound that you heard on a website on the internet. Yes, even streaming radio poses no problem but you should note that the following free tool is not capable of recognizing the beginning and end of songs. It just records for as long as you want.</span></span><br />

After installing the application you specify the source from where you want to record the audio from. You may select from the following sources: Phone Line, Microphone, Line In, CD Player, AUX, SPDIF, Stereo Mix and Mono Mix. Stereo Mix for instance should be a great selection for most purposes. Once that is done you should fine tune the recording level for best results.</span></span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">To do so take a look at the bar on the right side of the program window which should not peak into the red area at all times. Once that is done click on settings to specify the bit rate for the sound that will be recorded (between 32 and 320). You may also set a time limit for the recording but the default is to record until you stop the recording.</span></span><br />

<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Date 7/4/2013</span></b><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Wikipedia is only a click away for many people. However,what if you want to be able to access Wikipedia offline.Or, maybe print Wikipedia articles. What do you do? There are, of course, many options to download Wikipedia for offline viewing or print Wikipedia articles. Another way is to create an eBook out of Wikipedia articles using Wikipedia's built-in Book Creator tool.</span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Book&bookcmd=book_creator" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;" target="_blank">Book Creator</a><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> allows users to selectively pick any Wikipedia articles or pick whole article categories and use them to create a PDF,ePub,ODF (Open office document),or Opening eBook. There is also an option to order physical printed copies. (ordering physical copies obviously costs money but creating eBooks are free. Aside from Wikipedia articles, your books can have a custom title, custom subtitle and chapters. Once your books is created and you have downloaded it, you can view it to any device you like that supports the eBook format you used. Including mobile devices.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The best part? Book creator is extremely easy to use - simply enable it from Book creator's homepage and then start adding articles to it. However,if you are confused, Wikipedia has a great step-by-step tutorial showing you how it is done. Can it get better than this? Actually, it can.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTJK4rvNUTy3r4YDFUVzNOigTGjEtsUBnW3DsXb1lu60yMuZBDfHITZP3gzcOaKaxbO9hjk-BxTGIFO9gPjf0N3abAjW-FPwtLyG-hmscOYPEaj5KHv76R2qZKisVPLpQn-UIIE0ZErbo/s1600/untitled3.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTJK4rvNUTy3r4YDFUVzNOigTGjEtsUBnW3DsXb1lu60yMuZBDfHITZP3gzcOaKaxbO9hjk-BxTGIFO9gPjf0N3abAjW-FPwtLyG-hmscOYPEaj5KHv76R2qZKisVPLpQn-UIIE0ZErbo/s1600/untitled3.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">While Book Creator</span></span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> is a great tool, I found two things to be lacking with Book Creator. Firstly, you cannot use only a select part of an article for your book — you must use the whole article or none at all. I realize it may make the tool a bit more complicated than Wikipedia intends but being able to only use parts of an article for books would be extremely useful seeing as some Wikipedia articles are very long and they aren’t always useful in totality. Secondly, Book Creator allows no ‘preview’ capability. In other words, you cannot preview your eBook to see what it looks like before downloading it. I realize that since downloading eBooks you create with Book Creator is free, it doesn’t cost you much to simply download a book to see how it looks and then go back and change the book if you don’t like it. However, this method wastes a lot of bandwidth which isn’t conducive for people not on unlimited broadband connections. On the bright side, you can preview your book before ordering a physical copy so anyone wanting a preview feature that badly can use that preview functionality until Wikipedia adds a native one for eBooks.</span></span><br />

<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Windows Direct Statistics (WinDirStat) Statistics Viewer and Cleanup Tool</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="border: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">WinDirStat is a free tool that displays disk usage statistics in an interesting manner. After installation, the program starts and surveys the entire directory tree. The directory is then presented in three views: The directory list, the treemap and the extension list. The directory list is similar to that of Windows Explorer, but is instead sorted into subtree/ file size. The treemap displays all of the contents of the directory in a direct fashion. The extension list demonstrates statistics for each of the file types.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Each file on the treemap is represented by a colored rectangle. The size of the rectangle representing a file in relation to other files is dependent upon the file size. There is a juxtaposition of all files displayed by color, size and shape. Rectangles within rectangles contain all files and subdirectories and the area occupied by the various sizes represents a proportion to the original files. This is a very interesting way of viewing the occupied space of the hard drive. It takes the typical GUI a step further to give a comprehensive representation of memory usage through a unique visual perspective. Withstanding this, it is still functional.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Specific colors represent particular types of files and these are displayed in the extension list. There is shading to the structure of the treemap that accentuates the directory structure. It is a perspective as well as a listing.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;">The PC used in this demonstration has hard drive partitions, virtual disk images, and virtual hard disk data, so it presents a bilateral view as a result of the two VDIs.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;">You can download the WinDirStat version 1.1.2 installer from the following link:</span></span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Files representing larger amounts of disk space are represented by colors while file occupying less space are represented in grayscale. You can see this in the extension list.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The directory list is straightforward and clearly lists partition usage and basic statistics of the directory.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Given this perspective, WinDirStat certainly clarifies directory structure and memory usage in a unique way while offering other features. The extension list details statistics for every file type including percentage of memory occupancy on the hard drive and the quantities of given file types. On the computer used in this demonstration, for example, there are 8,376 .mui files occupying .1% or less of disk space at 228.6MB. This software is that detailed.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">By clicking on particular areas of the treemap, you can see specifics about that file location. There is a Zoom-in feature so that you can enlarge areas of the treemap and analyze them. By clicking a small area, we are able to see a complete list of the files occupying that subdirectory in the directory list.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">It is difficult to make out the cursor in this screenshot but it is in the middle, near the violet areas and it is a map of .dll files, all of which are listed in the directory list with a single click. By clicking the Cleanup tab, you can select “Explore here” and get all of the details for the directory and/ or subdirectories and select specific files to cleanup.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #101010; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Overall, the latest version of WinDirStat is definitely worth checking out, particularly for advanced users and those who want to do a detailed hard drive cleanup.</span></span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Date 5/4/2013</span></b><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The Windows Task Manager provides much information about the current
state of the operating system. It can display running processes,
applications, services, PC performance graphs, network adapters and
connected users. Although the Task manager does not display as much
information as advanced third party tools such as Process Explorer, it
is usually sufficient for basic tasks and a first overview of what is
running on the computer system.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Many Windows users do not know that it is possible to display additional
information in the Windows Task Manager. The following guide gives an
overview on how to enable the display of additional information in the
Windows Task Manager.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Loading the Windows Task Manager</span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></strong>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The keyboard shortcut to load the Windows Task Manager is
[Ctrl][Shift][Esc]. The task manager can also be loaded by
right-clicking the Windows Taskbar and selecting Start Task Manager from
the menu.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<strong><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Windows Processes</span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></strong>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Although it is not the left-most tab, the Processes tab is the default
tab activated when opening the Task Manager. The Processes tab provides
detailed information on running processes, such as CPU and memory usage,
PID and user rights, and in newer Windows versions includes a short
human-readable description of the process. By default the display is
filtered, a click on the button labelled "Show processes from all users"
will display all running processes.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkZDLSRiY1zry5TCcuOc1FlZbRbaN8wlBzgIqaJwfK7nuBZqvJitk6-FU3zGj_LLueurJErhiSczdzQAatFzjs7GjKn0I5yRSWlfyuEqpT-8hue_umRQEZeLibJiodMNdbwGb4i1Qqm70/s1600/untitled3.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkZDLSRiY1zry5TCcuOc1FlZbRbaN8wlBzgIqaJwfK7nuBZqvJitk6-FU3zGj_LLueurJErhiSczdzQAatFzjs7GjKn0I5yRSWlfyuEqpT-8hue_umRQEZeLibJiodMNdbwGb4i1Qqm70/s1600/untitled3.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">A click on View > Select Columns opens a configuration menu to add
columns to the display. Most of the additional information that can be
enabled in this menu is intended for developers and administrators, but
end users may find it helpful as well. For instance, it is possible to
display the path of running processes, which can be very helpful to
identify the program that has started the process.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPSbJCcKkHaM2L-pRpbkoialfeFSzWZAw8EyrZRyiCC_9b2g-p_515-VPmIckQ7dlVn-Du6xMEusXUCO0d9UCr0Tc6XwaJGVvqTiLsN-RTxllXZ9pO3VJ8bKUOJJ5bm0txLvZ_vcfdEac/s1600/untitled4.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPSbJCcKkHaM2L-pRpbkoialfeFSzWZAw8EyrZRyiCC_9b2g-p_515-VPmIckQ7dlVn-Du6xMEusXUCO0d9UCr0Tc6XwaJGVvqTiLsN-RTxllXZ9pO3VJ8bKUOJJ5bm0txLvZ_vcfdEac/s1600/untitled4.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br />
The Memory Peak Working Set column is another interesting column that
can be enabled. It displays the maximum amount of computer memory of
each process in the task manager. The configuration menu can also be
used to remove columns from the display in case they are not needed or
used. A recommended setting is to keep all columns that are activated by
default and add the Image Path Name and Memory - Peak Working Set
columns.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<strong><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Networking</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqk8fAfheuOe28ebfp25-Pk2CtYEoLLaZWF2ADValOwUz_2ZyNIYqJ9d49AADzUl6iDW-Um0aOYT4UM3B840XBPpyR9m8QrX1QZe16oJRqAtUcLdYtaMhVPmvtBsDqDqtKnLFfsGwpgXk/s1600/untitled5.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqk8fAfheuOe28ebfp25-Pk2CtYEoLLaZWF2ADValOwUz_2ZyNIYqJ9d49AADzUl6iDW-Um0aOYT4UM3B840XBPpyR9m8QrX1QZe16oJRqAtUcLdYtaMhVPmvtBsDqDqtKnLFfsGwpgXk/s1600/untitled5.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The Networking tab displays information about each network adapter. Most
Windows users will not see much information, if any at all, when they
open the tab in the Windows Task Manager. Like the Processes tab, the
Networking tab can be configured to display additional information by
clicking on View > Select Columns.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRI1KXlHNR-oC3DQc56byUeF4iO42UodmhAvnLPr3HFj_dhScPTyxb2_D0SzmQTU9d2Mdvc-0IPCZP-KABHZViViNgILFkT99uwPMAbJGOqSwUqyroVunhi8yJcbCPBpcWgpVlzpI_ZYs/s1600/untitled6.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRI1KXlHNR-oC3DQc56byUeF4iO42UodmhAvnLPr3HFj_dhScPTyxb2_D0SzmQTU9d2Mdvc-0IPCZP-KABHZViViNgILFkT99uwPMAbJGOqSwUqyroVunhi8yJcbCPBpcWgpVlzpI_ZYs/s320/untitled6.PNG" style="border: none;" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br />
In addition to the total amount of data transfer, separate graphs
representing Bytes Sent and Bytes Received can be enabled. The network
traffic will be monitored and displayed once the selections have been
made.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">These just two examples of Windows Task Manager tabs that can be
configured to display additional information. The rest of the Task
Manager can be similarly configured as well. End users will especially
benefit from the additional information in the Processes tab. What other
Task Manager configuration tips do you have? Let us know in the
comments.</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><b>Date 3/4/2013</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a class="ext-link" href="http://flashdeli.com/configinspector.php" target="_blank" title="">Config Inspector</a>
is a nice little freeware application for windows operating systems
that could be described as an advanced task manager. Besides offering
more information about loaded applications and processes it also
displays vital information about memory and cpu usage, network
utilization and general windows information.A nice handy utility which is only 125K zipped. Just unpack and run, no installation required.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><b>ConfigInspector: The Next Generation of Windows Task Manager</b></span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">For the average user, Windows Task Manager probably doesn’t come into
play very much at all, though this is just a guess. Users who are more
particular and curious from moderate to advanced abilities are
definitely familiar with Task Manager. It is a go-to for controlling
application usage, active process identification, observation of
services and performance and CPU usage among other things. From the Task
Manager, the user is able to terminate processes and applications that
are unnecessary or interfering with other applications. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">ConfigInspector is a free utility that displays the most pertinent
information about your operating system. It is like Task Manager on
steroids. For the user who utilizes Windows Task Manager regularly, this
is a must-have utility. It is more precise than Task Manager and offers
more features, yet you still have the control that you normally would,
if not more. The specific features that it offers, as per the specs, are
as follows:</span><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays list of working applications;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays list of working processes;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Monitors the memory status;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Monitors the CPU and network utilization;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays the full list of CPU capabilities;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays important Windows OS parameters;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays Windows Network parameters;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays HDD status and information;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays videocard information;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Displays soundcard information;</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">ConfigInspector works under Windows 2000/XP/2003 only.</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The last part is interesting. “ConfigInspector works under Windows 2000/
XP/2003 only. It works under Windows 7 as well. Perhaps that is because
many XP applications are compatible with Windows 7. There is no mention
of Vista compatibility at the download site. To examine the
capabilities of ConfigInspector, download the .zip free version from
this link.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Double-click the .exe file to extract and ConfigInspector opens
immediately without any installation. It is a stand-alone utility that
can be turned on and off as needed, though it would be reasonable to
assume that the advanced user would use it on a regular basis and
perhaps leave Windows Task Manager aside.<br /> For example, here is a screenshot of the CPU usage monitor:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs8_xKqdglRUDaF2yPL9_Cp6bvYMT1urYNgOhFe2MmuDJwhhew-o8Z2SW38K1fT4ePjA_eEzo-tazQ-5GO3Aix5CGXtafQUm7rmsKSvLfnuv1p7jvBSFrzx2cWFSQCOiidrWaDGRwKH88/s1600/untitled6.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border:none="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs8_xKqdglRUDaF2yPL9_Cp6bvYMT1urYNgOhFe2MmuDJwhhew-o8Z2SW38K1fT4ePjA_eEzo-tazQ-5GO3Aix5CGXtafQUm7rmsKSvLfnuv1p7jvBSFrzx2cWFSQCOiidrWaDGRwKH88/s1600/untitled6.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">There is a constant and indelibly accurate readout of CPU Load and
Kernel Usage. Load is indicated by the green line and Kernel is
indicated by the red. You will see rapid and continuous fluctuations
every second. This CPU is running 12 applications at once, so it is
interesting to see the activity.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Specific activity can be identified with ConfigInspector for
Applications, Processes, CPU Usage, Memory, Network Utilization, CPU,
Windows, Machine, Display, Media, Network and IDE/Drives. All of these
are tabs in the utility and each can be appropriately manipulated as
needed. The following screenshot shows the Memory tab:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIeaNLl94tDIDIRnhzpbeDpQO5CHH6Hmkg-pdpUsDIHN9kZmqoyzKqe9ZsYae1M-atsgE5cNhJ_vfGN57jKr4L5b3i__LkV_-q9SDRljFWleWQj_B18eaPKP5B1nGMT4TVTW3rdmVzAAc/s1600/untitled5.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIeaNLl94tDIDIRnhzpbeDpQO5CHH6Hmkg-pdpUsDIHN9kZmqoyzKqe9ZsYae1M-atsgE5cNhJ_vfGN57jKr4L5b3i__LkV_-q9SDRljFWleWQj_B18eaPKP5B1nGMT4TVTW3rdmVzAAc/s1600/untitled5.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">It is visible, right down to the exact number of bytes, how the memory
is allocated. This is definitely a pristine diagnostic tool. As stated,
the PC used in the demonstration is running 12 applications so there is a
great deal of activity and only 16% of the Physical Memory is free at
the time of the screenshot.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Much can be ascertained and controlled with this utility and it is
certainly worth taking for a test drive. In terms of memory, it only
occupies 125KB, so there is nothing to lose – just much to see.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><b>Date 2/4/2013</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a class="ext-link" href="http://www.google.com/alerts/manage" target="_blank" title="">Google Alerts</a>
back in the day was a great service and while it is still available
today, I have the feeling that it does not work that well anymore. So
what does it do? You can create alerts for any phrase, think Windows
Blue, Bearsoft or your full name, to receive alerts whenever a new item is
discovered by Google's search engine. Alerts can be delivered to an
email account or to an RSS reader as RSS feeds.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I have been using Google Alerts for a long time and the main impression
that I have about the feature is that it is finding less information
than before, and that it may share the fate of Google Reader eventually.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">After all I found a new web alert service called <a class="ext-link" href="http://www.talkwalker.com/alerts/manage" target="_blank" title="">Talkwalker Alerts</a>
that mimics Google's service in any way imaginable. If you ever created
a Google Alert you will find the create form on the Talkwalker Alerts
website look familiar to you as it resembles Google's form.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKnSgwyjoeK_isbZzUN6f5fK4TWyoNAIzlSEhZTonuNZiwrWL0h3Tp4alnJ03m27cYOzteE4qmgmbNASSgbzz5MazmcZXccAmAWvlgvieAObOndua5km3CLqVJBBqhUgLEXNhYzrzkTbs/s1600/untitled3.PNG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKnSgwyjoeK_isbZzUN6f5fK4TWyoNAIzlSEhZTonuNZiwrWL0h3Tp4alnJ03m27cYOzteE4qmgmbNASSgbzz5MazmcZXccAmAWvlgvieAObOndua5km3CLqVJBBqhUgLEXNhYzrzkTbs/s1600/untitled3.PNG" style="border: medium none;" /></a></span> <br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">You do need to enter a search query, that is the phrase you are
interested in receiving updates for, and an email address. The remaining
fields are optional but let you narrow down the results to a certain
language, type of platform they have been published on, and also define
how often and when you will be able to retrieve the information.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">You need to confirm your email address on first use but can use the
service freely from that moment on. The manage interface displays all
search queries that you have created in a similar manner as Google
Alerts.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC-_e65toyHoZGqHpIPstQoLUEv9BZT96BD57xGwEW7GvTWfWYApOtF_iYIcO6dqU4bFOoNYwOGz9IBcHb-lZ22OL6yzv96eLkePMQHtswL7TiSF8PkdJVagKkgxU_9Sp2dRRD3i83anQ/s1600/untitled4.PNG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC-_e65toyHoZGqHpIPstQoLUEv9BZT96BD57xGwEW7GvTWfWYApOtF_iYIcO6dqU4bFOoNYwOGz9IBcHb-lZ22OL6yzv96eLkePMQHtswL7TiSF8PkdJVagKkgxU_9Sp2dRRD3i83anQ/s1600/untitled4.PNG" style="border: medium none;" /></a> <br />Here you can turn email deliver on or off, and access the RSS feeds the
system creates for you. To subscribe to the feeds hover over an RSS icon
at the left side of a query, right-click it and select to copy the
link. If your feed reader is linked to the browser, left-clicking will
do as well.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">You can create new alerts here or delete existing ones. The import
option at the top can be used to import a CSV file with alerts which you
can do on the Google Alerts website for the feeds you are interested
in. That's excellent to run both services side by side for a while to
see which is better suited in keeping you in the loop.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Talkwalker Alerts <a class="ext-link" href="https://talkwalker.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1060564-what-forms-of-search-queries-are-respected-" target="_blank" title="">supports several</a>
kinds of search queries which may come in handy to customize the
results further. While you can simply enter a keyword or phrase and be
done with it, you can combine it with advanced search parameters that
Google Search supports. From using Boolean operators such as AND or OR,
over the use of quotes and wildcard searches to a proximity search
option.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">No service is perfect on the other hand and it is likely that you will
still miss out on new items. The advantage that the new service has over
Google Alerts, besides being more active to begin with, is that it is

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><b>Date 28/3/2013</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">If you are using <a href="http://surkun.blogspot.in/2012/12/backup-your-gmail-inbox-with-microsoft.html" target="_blank">Microsoft Outlook with Exchange Server</a>, you can easily
request read receipts and get notified when your email is opened by the
recipient(s).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">As such a tracking feature in not available in web email like Gmail,
Yahoo! Mail or the new Windows Live Hotmail, here’s an extremely
effective and free solution that works with every email program.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioSr_iWiFw8ooXc09X2vytz5-by1Vx59FNcloPDcwPyHPrx4jbGXk6hiNkK2VmRo_x9KHWLb2Vfu9JfRue4-q3ry9Fkce7Uq_sfFL5FPoDskG9wsJpFFc3nLgc6d7Ykzm7Cd3maW8TlJU/s1600/untitled3.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioSr_iWiFw8ooXc09X2vytz5-by1Vx59FNcloPDcwPyHPrx4jbGXk6hiNkK2VmRo_x9KHWLb2Vfu9JfRue4-q3ry9Fkce7Uq_sfFL5FPoDskG9wsJpFFc3nLgc6d7Ykzm7Cd3maW8TlJU/s1600/untitled3.PNG" style="border: medium none;" /></a><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The service is called <a href="http://www.spypig.com/" target="_blank">SpyPig</a>
and it will instantly send you a notification when your email is read
by the recipient. The read receipt will also have other details like the
IP address of the recipient and the exactly number of times he or she
read your email.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Using SpyPig is simple – type your email address (where you wish to
receive the notification) and they’ll give you a small tracking graphic
that you have to embed in your outgoing Gmail message via a simple
drag-n-drop. That’s it.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The SpyPig trick however works only with Rich Text or HTML email, not plain text.</span></div>

<b>Date 26/3/2013</b><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Nine simple steps to build a more secure computing environments that
save the precious data on your hard-drive from online threats and gives
you a better working experience.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">1. Windows Remote Registry Service Disabled</span><br />
<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Windows’ Remote Registry Service allows other users to gain access to
your computer’s system registry and modify it. This is useful in
situations where you require remote assistance. However, because this
feature can create a major security risk, by disabling the Remote
Registry Service, you increase your system’s security. <a name='more'></a></span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">2. Microsoft Messenger Service Disabled</span><div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The Microsoft Messenger Service running on your computer can be used to
send malicious pop-up messages that contain spam or viruses. By
disabling this service, you increase your system’s security and protect
it from external attacks designed to exploit this service.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">3. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Windows Automatic Updates Feature Enabled</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The Windows Automatic Updates feature keeps your computer up-to date
with the latest software updates and enhancements. The updates are
delivered to your computer with minimal interference and require little
or no action on your part. By enabling your computer’s Automatic Updates
feature, you increase your system’s security and make sure that your
computer automatically updates itself.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">4. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Internet Explorer Pop -Up Blocker Enabled</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The Internet Explorer pop up blocker prevents pop up messages from
appearing on your computer. These pop -up messages often contain
malicious software or unwanted advertisements. By enabling the pop up
blocker, you increase your system’s security and improve your Internet
browsing experience.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">5.</span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Internet Explorer Security Settings Optimized</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">When your Internet security settings are below the recommended level,
your computer is vulnerable to external attacks and security breaches.
Changing your the settings to the Medium Level helps protect that your
system whenever you use the Internet.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">6. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Microsoft Office Macros Security Optimized</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Macros are user-defined series of instructions for a computer. Microsoft
Office macros are scripts that are executed within an Office document
(Word, Excel, etc.) to enhance the application’s capabilities. However,
because macros may contain viruses or malicious code, by setting your
Office macros security to the recommended settings, you make sure that
you do not inadvertently infect your computer through a macro.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">7. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Browser Hijack Prevention Completed</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Each URL address that you type into the Web browser is first translated
into an IP address. This IP address determines which site is loaded to
your browser. To translate the IP address into a URL name, the browser
uses a local file called a hosts file. Occasionally, malicious software
implants its own hosts file into your computer and directs the browser
to this file, which may contain unsafe Web sites. By remapping your
browser to the original hosts file, you increase your system’s security,
protect it from external attacks, and ensure that you are directed only
to the Web sites you intend to visit.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">8. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Suspicious Auto Run Files Removed</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Auto-run files are files that start up automatically as soon as you
access the directory where they are installed. Some auto -run files may
be used to automatically run malicious code, and can make your system
vulnerable to external attacks. By removing all suspicious auto -run
files, you increase your system’s security and protect it from external
attacks designed to exploit these files.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> 9. Windows XP Firewall Enabled</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">A firewall is software or hardware that helps block unauthorized users,
viruses, and worms that could reach your computer over the Internet.
Therefore, it is important to make sure you have a firewall installed
and activated before connecting to the Internet, such as the Windows XP
integrated built -in firewall. Activating the Windows XP Firewall with
its default settings permits opening connections that originate from
your computer, but blocks connections that originate from the outside.
This makes it more difficult to attack your computer from the Internet.
By enabling the Windows XP Firewall, you increase your system’s security
and protect it from many external attacks. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><b>Date 24/3/2013</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Web based RSS readers is a great way to read your favorite updated RSS feed on the web. But some of very popular RSS reader also available for desktop. <a class="ext-link" href="http://www.curiostudio.com/" target="_blank" title="">GreatNews</a>
is a very popular desktop rss reader that comes with all the features one
would expect from a rss reader. It can import opml feeds which is a
standard XML format that contains feed information. Basically any feed
reader can export and import opml files. The first thing that observant
users will notice is the low resource usage. A direct comparison between
FeedDemon and GreatNews revealed that GreatNews was using between 10-20
Megabytes of computer memory less than FeedDemon did. (GreatNews uses
about 3 Megabytes when minimized while FeedDemon uses more than 7 MB)</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Resource usage is not everything on the other hand. Updating feeds in
the rss reader seemed to be a bit faster than it was in FeedDemon as
well. This might be caused by a subroutine of the desktop rss reader
that automatically detects dead or feeds that have not been updated in a
very long time giving the user the option to remove those feeds from
the rss software. FeedDemon has a similar option as it displays feeds
that are no longer working or have not been updated in a specific time
as well. This is a manual process however.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp-IVva4iMnvOK44tta_0kwWLA7pobC2gKJjZ_Mj51_TG90LvCOl9sMzmUZnU_hDpqoy53uBITQZEGow2g59Ou4A8AEzHPFS_va-tEE6Npj5kZoO5Fp2CvKWftYTo4v_a91dtPVQTBsfQ/s1600/untitled3.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp-IVva4iMnvOK44tta_0kwWLA7pobC2gKJjZ_Mj51_TG90LvCOl9sMzmUZnU_hDpqoy53uBITQZEGow2g59Ou4A8AEzHPFS_va-tEE6Npj5kZoO5Fp2CvKWftYTo4v_a91dtPVQTBsfQ/s1600/untitled3.PNG" style="border: none;" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">One of the more interesting features of GreatNews is the so called News
Watches. This makes it possible to make the desktop rss reader search
for keywords automatically in previously defined rss feeds. It is for
example possible to search for the name "Bill Gates" in all subscribed
rss news feeds, or for the term Windows only in the Bearsoft feed. This is
an excellent way to find keyword related news articles faster than
usual.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Related:<a href="http://surkun.blogspot.in/2013/03/create-rss-feeds-for-bing-search-result.html" target="_blank">Create A RSS Feeds For Bing Search Result</a></span> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Other features are:</span><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Various styles can be selected, custom ones created. This includes
styles that do not display images, flash or other multimedia contents.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Offline reading.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Saving news articles locally.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Article labels to access articles faster.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Full page reading.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Statistics.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Track Comments</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Are there any disadvantages? The only thing that's not looking bright is
support for the desktop rss reader. While the software developer is
still active on the website he does not seem to have plans to update the
software further except for a few necessary bug fixes. This is not a
problem right now as everything in the news reader is working as
intended and without complications. GreatNews as of now is an excellent
alternative to FeedDemon.</span><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> </span></div>
